I need to vent
So, one of my facebook friends (a priest-to-be) posted this article (from Fr. Z) about how the new Green Lantern is gay, with the expected commentary.
Things about how DC is pandering to the gay community and how dare they perpetuate a homosexual lifestyle and why is it the green lantern and how dare anybody make a political issue out of it and it’s so insulting (!!!) to make him gay.
I, doing my best to hold my tongue, wrote a small but firm response basically calling him out for the insensitivity. That didn’t go well, so I ducked out from responding anymore. Luckily someone else was willing to engage with him, and I’ve been keeping up with the commentary.
It’s now entirely devolved, and people have spread around this ignorance to issues called “political correctness.”
And here’s the quote of the day: “What we Catholics ought to object to is the fact that certain forces politicize their issues, in the same way these forces politicize women’s issues, or an ethnic minority’s issues into what can only be described as the ideology of Political Correctness arising from Cultural Marxists who promote a sort of Kulturkampf in our time.”
You’ve got to be kidding me. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
“I was walking down the street one day, and I heard this person going ‘Sybil!’ and I thought, ‘What?’ I turned around, and it was Michelle Dockery, who plays Mary. And I realised, ‘Oh, that makes sense.’” Jessica Brown-Findlay
